Felicia Chin matches everything to a ‘F’

Styles sussed out: We check in with sweet faced actress, Felicia Chin and bring you a glimpse of her sartorial style for your fashion inspiration.

The phrase 'what you see is what you get' is probably the best way to describe fun-loving actress Felicia Chin. Her cheery disposition clearly extends to her personal style of fashion - going by her love for colourful, fun and vibrant fashion pieces.

Sporting a new tan at the recently held Star Awards 2010, the reigning princess looked extremely lovely in a Marc by Marc Jacob's Spring 2010 short dress and a vibrant mini number from Manish Arora, a designer from India.

The female champion in Channel 8's Star Search [2003] competition started out squinty-eyed with nary a whiff of celebrity appeal but these day, Felicia Chin is strutting her stuff with such glowing style that we can't stop falling in love with her all over again.

1. Describe your style.
It is just an expression of myself; there and then.

2. Which brands do you fancy to buy?
I really like the clothes and personality from Dsquared²; it's all about being fun, loud, and vibrant. Shouldn't life be like that?

3. Where do you normally shop your clothes from?
Anywhere, I like clothes from the men's department.

4. How often do you buy new clothes to refresh your wardrobe?
I don't think too much into it; when I see something I like or a style I want to try, I'll probably do something about it such as buy some clothes and get some accessories, just have fun.

5. Are you the type of person who matches everything to a T?
I match everything to a F.

6. What would you never wear?
What I wore to my secondary school prom when I was 16. (Laughs)

7. What is one item that you really should throw away, but probably never will?
Nothing.

8. How long does it take you to get dressed?
A second. Onwards and onwards.

9. What's your grooming routine?
Routine is pretty simple; plus positivity, happiness, fun, laughter and love.

10. Who do you think are the true fashion icons today?
Katherine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn, they were ahead of their times. Of course they were beautiful but what stood out also were their individual expressions of themselves. They were different from the majority and yet, they were confident and I think it is a worthy attribute to learn.

Frankly speaking, we are fashion icons! If we only dare to experiment and dress the way we want. Fashion is a creative and visual expression of oneself and it is a way of life too! Shouldn't we celebrate life as unique individuals instead of trying to be like everyone else?

11. Any fashion tip you would like to give to our readers?
Try green eye-shadow; it looks good.

12. Are you happy with the way you look? Rate yourself from 1 to 10
Yes, very. 11; morale-booster ;)

Will Felicia Chin be the next to bid goodbye?

In her Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste award acceptance speech onstage last night, Felicia Chin mysteriously hinted at the possibility of an impending departure. Will she be the next to relinquish her crown?

Following the departure of Fiona Xie, Dawn Yeoh, and Jesseca Liu, Caldecott Hill's seven princesses are now whittled down to a mere four: Jeanette Aw, Felicia Chin, Joanne Peh, and Rui En.

At last night's Star Awards 2010 Show 2 held in Resorts World Singapore, Felicia Chin hinted at the possibility of being next-to-go in her Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste award acceptance speech when she said, "This might be my last time standing on this stage."

In an interview with xinmsn, the 26-year-old actress professed her nervousness and happiness in winning this award. She felt particularly touched with this win because "I have not been appearing on local TV screens in Singapore for a long time."

"I was told that my name was on the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste listings for the past 9 weeks and I am really grateful for this," she honestly quipped.

Decked out in a colourful ensemble from Indian designer, Manish Arora, Felicia played coy when asked about her mysterious hint onstage saying, "it is hard to predict what will happen in future."

Currently filming an upcoming sports drama series, No Limits, with Elvin Ng and Dai Yangtian, she likened the award as "a very good present" and repeatedly expressed her thanks and joy.

When asked if she plans to leave the entertainment industry and return to school -- as she previously mentioned in interviews, Felicia said nothing and merely confessed that her mother "hopes for me to finish my studies."

"I personally hope to complete my father and mother's tiny dream. I personally feel that studying is a really great thing to do. It's like taking one step forward. It's not convenient for me to reveal my contract details, but there might be some minor changes this year.

"Time will tell," the enigmatic one concluded.

Three roles and no award for Felicia Chin but “it's ok”

Touted as one of the “strongest competitors” for last week’s Most Favourite Female Character award, Felicia Chin talks about her triple nomination and loss

Felicia Chin pulled a stunner when all three roles for her characters in Love Blossoms (Tao Haitong), The Ultimatum (Sun Min), and Baby Bonus (Apple Hong) were nominated for the Most Favourite Female Character award last week.

Unlike her fellow competitors who faced bouts of merry-go-rounds with their character nominations falling in and out of the listings each week, Felicia's roles held their ground and all three nominations squeezed through the final 10 listing at last Sunday's Star Awards Show 1.

Despite being labeled "the strongest contender" by her fellow competitor, Jeanette Aw, who jokingly lamented at Felicia taking up "30% of the nominations," the triple-nomination princess failed to push through the final bout of voting and eventually lost the award to the latter.

In an exclusive phone interview with xinmsn yesterday, the busy bee who finally got back to us from her packed filming schedule for the upcoming Ch 8 drama series Splashes and Strings, sounded perky and upbeat.

"Three roles and no award, it's not a disappointment to me. In fact, it is a big achievement. I really didn't expect it and a lot of effort went into it [the three nominations]. The number is just amazing," she gushed, brushing off talks of disappointment and defeat.

In fact, she takes comfort that the public "really liked all three characters" which summed up her "whole year's achievements." Despite each role being strikingly different from her usual girl-next-door demeanor, the overwhelming polls have further reaffirmed Felicia's confidence and now, she has "little fear in trying roles that are not as well-liked."

The 25-year-old explained, "These characters are not that well-liked -- not as glamorous, not as beautiful (tomboy getup in The Ultimatum) and not as socially-acceptable (single mother in Baby Bonus). These are the pretty daring things I did last year and it has come to a point where I feel that it has been accepted."

Decked out in a frivolous Marc by Marc Jacobs frock for the recent Star Awards Show 1, Felicia appeared unusually tanner with an evident swimsuit tan line showing on her shoulders.

"It's free endorsement for the new show !" she mischievously chortled before exclaiming, "The makeup artiste got a shock! I am now three to four shades darker! It is to the point whereby I had to change the colour tone of my entire wardrobe!"

Wardrobe issues aside, Felicia jested, "I think I can do the 4 X 100 medley race after this show. I can even be the backup swimmer for the Youth Olympics team! (guffaws)"

With the past three weeks packed with "intensive filming and lots of pool scenes," it seems like this princess is bent on making her swimming practice and effort count in the upcoming Youth Olympics. And to that we say... Game on, Felicia!

Will Ann Kok, Joshua Ang and Tay Pinghui emerge triumphant this year?

Our take on the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes:
On the winning pedestal: Jeanette Aw, Felicia Chin, Rui En, and Joanne Peh

With the seven princesses now whittled down to the formidable four, there's no showing in weaker star power or lost of appeal amongst fans.

The trio's (Jeanette, Felicia, and Rui En) ardent fans put on such a strong resistance against fellow competitors during voting of Most Favourite Female Character (in the Star Awards Show 1) and took up three out of the coveted five final spots. A legion of fans? You betcha. Guaranteed spots? No doubt about it.

As for the newly-crowned media darling, Joanne, she has got the best of both worlds -- fans and media -- on her side. Coupled with her current exposure on the 7pm slot in the ongoing megadrama series Your Hand In Mine, she's a sure shoo-in at this Sunday's awards ceremony.

In the safe zone: Jesseca Liu, Ann Kok, Vivian Lai

It's a 'goodbye' award for one, and a 'welcome back' award for the other.

Call it Jesseca's swansong on television. A Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste award would be the best parting gift for her. Fans, are you reading this? On the other hand, the buxomly one of MediaCorp has transformed from comeback-nobody, to comeback kid Ann with her titular role in the household hit, Housewives' Holiday. She's even in the running for Best Actress win this year with her stellar performance. 'nuff said.

In dangerous waters: Quan Yifong, Xiang Yun, Yvonne Lim

We think Xiang Yun and Yvonne has got enough exposure on local TV, but not enough star appeal to outshine their fierce competitors. And as much as we love Yifong's wit and sarcasm, the statistics don't lie: According to the weekly Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes updates, the redhead has never once made it into the list since her nomination.

The underdogs: Kym Ng, Michelle Chia, Belinda Lee

As consistent runners for the coveted Top 10 spots, will Kym and Michelle's star powers fade under the blazing competition, or will their consistent performances in variety hosting be strong enough to win them votes from the audiences?

Source : Sinchew Daily

Felicia Chin : Singing from the heart

Source : thestar.com.my

Felicia Chin gets to showcase her singing talent in The Glittering Days.

PORTRAYING a young singer torn between two lovers in The Glittering Days, Singaporean actress Felicia Chin discovered how singing effectively complements acting.

The revelation came during a scene in which Chin’s character sings her heart out to Su Qing Yun (William San), who is hesitant to pursue their relationship further due to the presence of her other suitor, Huang Da Wei (Jeffrey Cheng).

“It was a very empowering moment. I think I’ve evolved not only in terms of acting. Singing also helps with expressing raw emotions. I really learnt a lot while filming this series. It’s not just about acting but living life. That is why I remember that moment until now,” offered Chin, 25, during an interview to promote her latest drama.

Rising star: Singapore’s Felicia Chin plays getai singer Xu Wen Hui in new ntv7 series The Glittering Days
The pretty actress was glad that her role as a club singer-turned-street performer sees her taking to the stage to showcase her artistic talents during the filming of the series late last year.

“Though I’ve not cut an album before, I’ve had the opportunity to sing theme songs and I’ve performed in charity shows and outdoor events. I’ve loved singing since I was a child. It is a very strong passion of mine,” said Chin, who is open to the idea of pursuing a singing career.

Chin plays Xu Wen Hui, a charismatic young singer in the 30-episode Mandarin drama series.

Compelled to take part in various singing competitions by her adoptive father Cai Jin Long, she grows up to become a withdrawn and temperamental young woman. Yet, with her considerable talents, she quickly gains fame in Malaysia and Taiwan.

However, a scandal involving her dating a married man leaves her reputation in tatters and puts her career in jeopardy. Her recording contract is terminated. Her boyfriend leaves her. She even runs into debt.

Worse, she discovers that she is adopted, and ends up being sent back to Shu Xiao Xiao (Hong Kong’s Mimi Kung), whom she believes is her real mother.

Also known as “Golden Voice”, Xiao Xiao is a famous club singer who ended up as a street concert singer as she had a burning passion for getai (stage) performances. She even formed a well-known street concert group named Da Hong Hua.

Of Wen Hui’s two suitors, Qing Yun is an orphan adopted by Xiao Xiao while Da Wei is the spoilt son of a well-to-do family.

Although Wen Hui and Qing Yun start off on the wrong footing and quarrel over petty issues, their love gradually grows. Yet, Wen Hui is wary of hurting the love-struck Da Wei, whom she is indebted to for helping her when she was embroiled in the scandal.

Embarking on a career in entertainment after she emerged champion of Singapore’s Star Search 2003, Chin has consistently been voted Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes at Singapore’s Star Awards since 2006. The actress first filmed in Malaysia when she starred alongside Malaysian singer-songwriter Rynn Lim in The Beginning (2006), the very first joint production between Singapore’s MediaCorp and Malaysia’s Media Prima Berhad.

The series also features local actors Chris Tong, Coby Chong, Moo Man Yee and Wang Jun.

The Glittering Days airs on ntv7 every Monday to Thursday at 10pm starting today.

Jeanette Aw ousts fellow competitors Rui En and Felicia Chin

Despite fierce competition from her fellow female (and male) starlets, Jeanette Aw pulls through and comes out tops last night to clinch the Most Favourite Female Character award.

MediaCorp

Jeanette Aw's genteel, steely and headstrong character, Yao Jianhong, from megadrama series, Together, proved to be no pushover to Rui En's legion of fans, Felicia Chin's threatening triple nomination (Sun Min in The Ultimatum, Apple Hong in Baby Bonus, and Tao Haitong in Love Blossoms II) and Aunty Lucy's effervescent "so embarrassing" personality.

Although fellow competitor Felicia Chin could not be reached for a comment at press time, Rui En was all cool and smiles on Jeanette's win as she said, "I'm really okay with it. I expected Jeanette to win earlier on."

At an exclusive backstage interview with xinmsn, Jeanette profusely thanked her fans, family, and the production team for "giving me the role of Yao Jianhong."

She openly expressed her "love" for the character and revealed that she was "deeply attracted to Yao Jianhong when I first read the script."

"I never knew that such an ordinary woman exists. Her ordinary qualities could have appealed to viewers, who might be able to relate to it when they think of their mother or grandmother, who were brought up in those times."

"I really love this role of being Yao Jianhong," she ruefully added.

If anything, this win provided Jeanette with "a glimmer of hope" for her Best Actress nomination in the second show of Star Awards 2010.

Looking every bit the fashionista with a head-to-toe ensemble from alldressedup and a sleeked back high ponytail, the 31-year-old acknowledged that she faced "tough competition" from the likes of Aunty Lucy and Felicia Chin, and referred to the so-embarrassing former as her "strongest competitor."

In-between chortles of laughter, she said, "Aunty Lucy is definitely my strongest competitor though Felicia is definitely one strong competitor too. She [Felicia] had three roles and 30% was already taken by her! They are both rather strong, and have quite a lot of fans too."

When asked to choose between the Media Darling and Most Favourite Character award, Jeanette expressed her preference over the latter and honestly acknowledged, "I'm not the hot favourite [for the Media Darling award]."

She straightforwardly explained, "I don't mind saying that because I can accept it. Everyone has their own opinions, and it is okay."

"But for this Favourite Female Character award, I acted for the audience and they loved it. This is a form of encouragement to me."

When asked if is she feels confident about running for Best Actress Award next week with this trophy to her name, she coyly remarked, "It has given me a glimmer of hope for the Best Actress award."

Star Awards flashforward: Dai Yangtian and Jeanette Aw for Fav Characters

Favourite Female Character

The whispers are saying...

We repeat: this is not an acting award.

Jeanette Aw delivers her lines in alien Mandarin with such perfection that calls for an award of a different sort. The petite actress also has a rare gift - she performs a multitude of emotions with just one expression. Yes, you get the drift.

But a popularity pageant, it is.

The refreshing face, talent-spotted at rival station MediaWorks, has almost always played well-liked characters that are perfect, flawless, and ultimately detached from reality. Juxiang, Yueniang, Yao Jianhong and even her current transformation (or not) into Cai Shiya in New Beginnings are just unbelievably good human beings.

Need concrete proof of her fanbase? Sweeping half of last year's Top 8 Most Likeable Female Characters at the Channel 8 Countdown Party was stunning, to say the least.

That, my friend, was decided by online voting.

The dark horse

Of the remaining four princesses, we're most in awe / afraid of Felicia Chin's following. While Jeanette's Jianhong is one of those leading in the counters, Felicia has a whopping three characters in the titanic mix.

Therefore before we actually pick one of them, we're already declaring the former Star Search winner our dark horse.

And since we have to, we admit we're leaning towards the famously affable actress' ah lian turn in Baby Bonus. It might not have been a Method performance that was a carbon copy of the real loudmouthed rebels roaming the malls, but it was commendable effort nonetheless.

So why still dark horse? For the simple reason we're jittery her fans vote spontaneously (her Tao Haitong in Love Blossoms II and the tortured Sun Min in The Ultimatum are also in the running).

Felicia Chin @ Simply Her May Issue

Credit to ranice

Who does Felicia Chin think she is?

She’s not the cutesy, straight-laced girl you see on TV. Instead, there are many different sides to the reigning princess of Caldecott Hill, as we discovered – some more surprising than others.

She wants to be like Lady Gaga

“She is a great example of fearlessness. We need people like her because she’s inspirational.”

She wants to be a domestic goddess

“I would love to have my own cooking show. When I was younger, I used to raid the fridge and try to cook for my sister and me. One Christmas, I baked cookies for two straight nights to fill 30 cookie gift tins! Nigella Lawson’s my role model. She’s not at all pretentious. And she doesn’t care about eating sinful food, like fried peanut butter sandwiches, late at night.”

She revels in her sexiness

“Sexiness is such a personal concept. I feel sexy at different times: after a shower, after a photo shoot with makeup on… Sometimes, I’ll catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and go: ‘Wow!’ You have to like what you see in the mirror (to feel sexy). Underwear is important – lacy ones! Beautiful underwear makes me feel good.”

Will it soon be the end of the Seven Princesses of MediaCorp?

Felicia Chin

The hard-work-pays-off princess had an inconspicuous entry in the entertainment industry despite being the female champion in Ch 8's Star Search in 2003. As compared to her fellow female showbiz peers, Felicia was tanned, squinty-eyed and oozed zero onscreen appeal back then. Her career was given an immediate boost after she gained wide-mass appeal in Ch 8's long-running drama series, Portrait of Home I & II, starring as the infamous "Mei Ren Yu" ('Little Mermaid' in Chinese), the plain Jane of Pierre Png's onscreen character's affections. Since then, the former-VJC student has finally "graduated" with flying colours, landing herself plum roles in Chinese dramas like Love Blossoms, Perfect Cut I, The Golden Path, and The Ultimatum. The plastic surgery scandal that plagued her to be "fake from the waist up" did nothing to her foil her image as a sweetie pie, if not to spice up her A-list status and versatility. That obviously gave her last role in Baby Bonus as a brash and bold ah lian that much more oomph.

Is she next to go?: 50% yes, 50% no. With a vivid passion for acting in her, nothing's gonna stand in her path to stardom if she steps out of the past and deals with negativities the right way. Don't count on it though, this princess once expressed desire to complete her university education in future. And when will it be? We have no idea too.

Felicia Chin - Seven Days
