Felicia Chin & Nat Ho : Best friends forever?

Best friends forever?

Ex-MediaCorp artistes Felicia Chin and Nat Ho talk about how they came to be good friends

September 28, 2010

THEY are such good friends that when Felicia Chin and Nat Ho left MediaCorp after their contracts ended in June, people were speculating that they had planned their departures together.

Chin is pursuing her studies while Ho is set on a singing career.

How did you become friends?

CHIN: If you ask me about the details, I don't know where to start. All I can say is that our friendship is a natural progression.

HO: What I remember most is that about two years ago, after filming the Chinese New Year's Eve variety show, both of us, together with (fellow actors) Elvin Ng and Dawn Yeoh, went to Chinatown to join in the celebrations.

We partied till 2am. We then bought sparklers and continued partying in MediaCorp's carpark.

CHIN: Our behaviour was childish yet we were reminded of our childhood.

HO: This is one of the memories that I treasure. It is very hard to find real friends in this line.

CHIN: Can you imagine four adults playing with sparklers in a big carpark? We even made videos of our playing around.

HO: Around that time, Edison Chen's sex photo scandal broke. When Felicia told me the following afternoon that she lost her camera, I went: 'Oh my God!'

CHIN: I was very worried because our behaviour was unbecoming for artistes. Then again, I also thought that if the videos were posted on YouTube, we would be famous!

Is it easy to make friends in showbiz?

HO: It's tough. Many artistes look out only for themselves. That's why people say artistes can only be colleagues but not friends. It's sad.

CHIN: A lot depends on affinity. I think I have few friends from MediaCorp as I'm not an expressive person. That is why I treasure my friendships with Nat and a few other colleagues.

HO: Felicia is like an onion with many protective layers that must be peeled off for anyone to understand her well.

She is always sensitive to other people's feelings and often ends up being easily influenced by others.

As her friend, I feel the need to protect her.

Is it possible for platonic friendships to exist between men and women?

CHIN: With Nat, it's possible. Although, personally, I think it's not possible with other men. I have male friends outside showbiz and sometimes, I have the feeling they're looking to be more than just friends with me.

HO: I have close friendships with women outside showbiz.

How many relationships have you had after joining MediaCorp?

HO: I've been attracted to a few women but it's difficult to start serious relationships because I don't know if the women are interested in me or if they just fancy being with a celebrity.

CHIN: That person is definitely not me!

What are your best memories of life in MediaCorp?

HO: There are ups and downs in an artiste's life. My career highpoint was winning Favourite Male Character at this year's Star Awards.

My low point came when I left MediaCorp. Some people said I left because I wanted more money. I don't like this sort of speculation.

CHIN: I was very touched when my mother, older sister and friends cheered me on when I took part in Star Search.

And when I left MediaCorp, my colleagues and even other staff who did not know me well came to wish me well.

I thought they were very warm-hearted.

Felicia Chin's "new beau" is Kingone Wang?

Looks like Felicia Chin can't get enough of TV.

After a short hiatus from acting, the former-actress-now-student will be back on our goggle boxes this September. But hang on, she's not giving up her books just yet.

The pretty actress last exited our TV sets and embarked on some much-delayed tertiary education in June, bidding local audience farewell with her swansong performance in sports-music drama No Limits.

The starlet will return for a short one week plus acting stint in the upcoming Channel U feature film, Love, 50%, before hitting the books again.

Present at Channel U's beach event, Hey Gorgeous on The Beach, with co-star Taiwanese Kingone Wang last Saturday, Felicia spoke to xinmsn about her upcoming acting project and her school life.

In the film, she plays a free-spirited girl who bumps into Kingone Wang's insurance agent character. Drama ensues and the pair's meeting soon spirals into a day of fun, adventure and romance.

Felicia praised her foreign co-star for his natural acting and friendly nature.

"I used to watch his idol drama, Why Why Love, and always thought him to be a serious person. Turns out he's nothing like that," she said.

While Felicia had come to know Kingone through his drama, the lad on the other hand was clueless about Felicia until their meeting a few days before this interview.

"I only knew about Felicia being one of MediaCorp's "Seven Princesses" yesterday!" the actor admitted bashfully.

He explained: "Working in Taiwan gives me little opportunity to know about Singapore's entertainment scene. The few that I know of are Fann Wong and director Jack Neo's film I Not Stupid."

Felicia talks about life as a student

Having only started university as a freshman last month, can Felicia cope with her studies while juggling acting commitments?

Felicia clarified that she had only accepted the role because the filming period had coincided with her one-week school break.

"I don't think that there's such thing as me "leaving" or "returning" back to showbiz. Because acting is something I'd always like to do, as long my schedule allows it, I will continue to act," the NUS business student explained.

The visibly happy schoolgirl gushed while talking about her school life, repeatedly saying that life has been "very great!"

"Everyone has been really nice to me in school. When I lose my way in campus - which I still do even after one month - people would take the initiative to show me the way."

However, Felicia still has her fair share of worries.

The 25-year-old VJC alum admits to taking a longer time in learning, attributing the cause to be her long absence from books while pursuing her acting career.

"I'm always bugging my classmates when I don't understand something. I just hope they don't find me a bother!"

She added that while mathematics is her weakest subject, she's more confident when it comes to creative ideas, and is always providing interesting ideas during projects.

Love, 50%, is slated to air on 19 December, 9pm on Channel U.

Felicia Chin & Dai Yang Tian @ Style Weddings September 2010

LOVE HAPPENS

Felicia Chin and MediaCorp Artiste Dai Yang Tian may have a sizzling romance in the drama series, No Limits, but in real life, they are both enjoying their freedom as singletons.

Finding Time For Love
When it comes to love, Dai Yang Tian and Felicia Chin prefer to let it run its course.

"Romance is always round the corner, but it is not something I’m actively looking for," chirps Felicia. "I would rather it come as a surprise rather than plan for it."

In fact, she has no qualms about being single. "I haven’t been attached for the longest time. It is just difficult to go dating. The nature of my job does not allow me the space and time to get to know a person better," she claims.

Yang Tian, too, has been single for the past three years. "I’ve just been so busy working," he explains. In his two years in Singapore, he has worked, on average, between 16 to 18 hours a day. "With my hectic schedule, it’s hard to get into a relationship. We do not even have enough time to sleep," he protests.
