Felicia Chin overcomes grief to perform at Ren Ci charity show

SINGAPORE : Singapore actress Felicia Chin lost her grandfather on Sunday but still overcame her grief to perform at the Ren Ci charity TV show that same night.

Chin, 25, and MediaCorp actor Elvin Ng, 29, performed in a rendition of the popular Chinese classic "The Butterfly Lovers" which saw them sing, dance and act. Veteran Hong Kong actress Nancy Sit, thespian Adrian Pang and Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar Baey Yam Keng also guest starred in the rendition.

When asked to rate their performance, Ng told reporters that he "would give her [Chin] an eight", adding that it was very difficult for him to pick up Chinese dance.

"Chinese dance is so difficult because I don't dance and my body is very stiff!" said Ng.

The usually cheerful Chin, however, appeared subdued, only replying that she would let the audience rate their performance.

When reporters asked the actress why her singing parts were dubbed, she remained somber and kept silent while tears welled up in her eyes.

Chin's manager tried to smooth things over and end the interview but Chin looked as though she had something to say. Ng finally cut through the awkward atmosphere and asked Chin why she was so emotional.

"My grandfather passed away. I did not think my performance was good because I kept thinking of him," she replied, choking back tears. "He didn't even get to see my performance."

After further probing, it was found that Chin had taken to the stage despite the loss of her grandfather earlier in the day and even accepted media interviews after the show.

"I am sorry but I have to rush home," Chin said before leaving in tears.
