A different Felicia Chin returns

SINGAPORE: Ask media princess Felicia Chin what her 18 month break from acting has done for her, and she might just start tearing up.

The actress says she now seems to be more relaxed now and it's easier getting into her emotions, especially for crying scenes.

Having matured into her craft, the 27 year old who is back on-screen in upcoming drama, 'Love Thy Neighbour' confidently takes on the role of a con-woman with a heart of gold – a break from her usual nice girl roles.

"The role is kind of like a modern day Robin Hood. She cheats but she cheats from the rich to help the poor- that is what is attractive about her," said Chin of her character Wang Tian Hu.

It may seem that Chin and her TV character are worlds apart but really, they are not so different in nature revealed the actress who makes time for worthy causes.

"She [Wang Tian Hu] cares a lot for the elderly. Like her, when I do something good for other people, I wouldn't intentionally let them know I did it," Chin said at a recent media session.

"It's not for publicity. It's just something I feel like doing for them."

In filming for the 20-episode drama, Chin admits that some parts were especially challenging, such as the scene where her rock music-loving character goes down to Orchard Road to perform in front of a crowd.

"It's quite a terrifying experience to be trying to play the electric guitar and singing the whole song myself in front of so many people. People might think that I look crazy," Chin confessed of the one take effort.

Chin also revealed that she prepared for the scene by watching countless YouTube videos of undiscovered guitar-playing talent.

Still, Chin is happy for the opportunity to have been a part of the new Channel 8 drama as it offered different experiences, including the "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" of working with Hong Kong showbiz veteran, Ha Yu who plays her father in the drama.

When asked about working with Ha, the Singapore actress described him as "easygoing and a natural on screen" , adding that he helped Chin by sharing his experience on screen.

Next on the cards for Chin is something not too glamorous but very important nonetheless - school for another year and a half to earn her Business studies degree at the National University of Singapore.

'Love Thy Neighbour' will debut on September 27, 9pm on Channel 8.
