Star Awards flashforward: Dai Yangtian and Jeanette Aw for Fav Characters

Favourite Female Character

The whispers are saying...

We repeat: this is not an acting award.

Jeanette Aw delivers her lines in alien Mandarin with such perfection that calls for an award of a different sort. The petite actress also has a rare gift - she performs a multitude of emotions with just one expression. Yes, you get the drift.

But a popularity pageant, it is.

The refreshing face, talent-spotted at rival station MediaWorks, has almost always played well-liked characters that are perfect, flawless, and ultimately detached from reality. Juxiang, Yueniang, Yao Jianhong and even her current transformation (or not) into Cai Shiya in New Beginnings are just unbelievably good human beings.

Need concrete proof of her fanbase? Sweeping half of last year's Top 8 Most Likeable Female Characters at the Channel 8 Countdown Party was stunning, to say the least.

That, my friend, was decided by online voting.

The dark horse

Of the remaining four princesses, we're most in awe / afraid of Felicia Chin's following. While Jeanette's Jianhong is one of those leading in the counters, Felicia has a whopping three characters in the titanic mix.

Therefore before we actually pick one of them, we're already declaring the former Star Search winner our dark horse.

And since we have to, we admit we're leaning towards the famously affable actress' ah lian turn in Baby Bonus. It might not have been a Method performance that was a carbon copy of the real loudmouthed rebels roaming the malls, but it was commendable effort nonetheless.

So why still dark horse? For the simple reason we're jittery her fans vote spontaneously (her Tao Haitong in Love Blossoms II and the tortured Sun Min in The Ultimatum are also in the running).
