Zhang Yaodong turns a new "Paige" in reel life

Actor bids farewell to screen partner and rumoured girlfriend Felicia Chin and talks about the new leading ladies in his life

It is official. On-screen couple and rumoured lovebirds Felicia Chin and Zhang Yaodong are bidding each other farewell.

After more than two years of being romantically-linked to Felicia Chin, the actor is now ready to move on to a new leading lady. The lady in question is actress Paige Chua as the duo pair up in new Channel 8 melodramatic thriller The Score.

In it, Yaodong plays a scion of a wealthy conglomerate, Luo Shun Bang, who falls head over heels in love with his company's employee, Zhou Tian Lan (played by Paige Chua).

Speaking to xinmsn at the lensing ceremony of The Score yesterday, the handsome actor admitted that he is looking forward to acting with the former model.

The drama also marks his first extensive collaboration with Paige, whom he only had a brief encounter with, in a supporting role in earlier 2008 drama Crime Busters x2.

Although Yaodong has yet to meet his co-star - who's holidaying in Australia currenty - he's looking forward to seeing her new image for the drama.

Besides Paige, Yaodong had also worked with fellow Malaysian actress Tracy Lee in The Best Things In Life.

Both were touted by local media as the up-and-coming artistes of Caldecott Hill.

When asked about his thoughts on the "new generation princesses", the 32-year-old appeared pensive and paused, before ditching out advice.

"I'd think the qualities a "princess" should possess would be humility, determination and diligence," he said.

The chiselled-faced hunk quipped, "Humility is the most important. After all, life is like a drama. You can only improve your acting skills when people around you share their experiences with you."

What about his alleged girlfriend, Felicia Chin's departure from acting, we asked. What are his thoughts on her decision?

"A turn in things might prove to be a blessing in disguise," was his terse reply.

The strapping 1.81m tall Yaodong added, "Who knows, perhaps some studying and time away would help her become more mature and aid in her acting when she returns."

The bubbly female champion of the Star Search 2003 talent competition had earlier announced that she would be hitting the books after her contract with MediaCorp ends this month.

So, would Yao Dong be preparing anything special for Felicia?

"If time allows, I might meet up with Felicia, together with a couple of celebrity friends like Dawn Yeoh and Jesseca Liu for a farewell party of some sorts. We are good friends," he said.
